Task 3: 30.1.3

This is an Advertisement for the SR toothpaste which was released and aired in the year of 1955. I feel that although dated in comparison the latter advert of what could only be described as selling the same product...it is contemporary to it's time.

It has been filmed in black and white, as I don't think that color television had been invented by that era. The register used is very formal and demonstrates Standard English. The sort that a news present would embody.

The advert is presented with a lot of statistical information, which I feel add to the selling of the product. Using Statistics, creates an assumption that the product being advertised, is deem reliable and trustworthy.

With this television commercial being release early this year, I would say that it was very modern and contemporary.

The reason I like this advert, and why I personally do use Colgate toothpaste is because the advert had been experimentally produced. This meaning, that they've used what appears as a member of the 'public' to test out their product and come back and tell them what they've thought of it. I believe that using this technique personalised the product to the consumers. It appeals to everyone, as everybody does or should brush their teeth.

The additional information, although in small print to stop the audience from being distracted from the main advert; are very informative and outline some facts that have not been mentioned. I especially liked the visual aids of what this toothpaste fights against.
