Script, Rumor Has It: Film Noir

Rumour Has It- Film Noir Script.

SCENE ONE!
Isabella has asked Adrian to meet her in a restaurant as she has something to ask him. She feels that her husband Julian is having an affair and wants Adrian to follow him and get to the bottom of it. She is sitting down at a table wearing a white smart shirt. After a few seconds, Adrian enters the scene costumed in a black smart trousers and a shirt.

Adrain: Why have you called me here, Izzy?
Isabella:  take a seat. (He sits) I need your help!
Adrian: with what this time?
Isabella: You make it sound like a chore. We both know you find comfort in helping me (smiles)
Adrian: (sensing advancements he says) what do you need help with Izzy? I was in the middle of something.
Isabella: I need your help. I think Julian’s cheating again.
Adrian: Are you serious? You can’t say ‘cheating again’ when he hasn’t before.
Isabella: I know I was wrong before, but I know I’m right now! I can feel it.
Adrian: you said that all the three occasions and nothing happened.
Isabella:  he’s my husband. I know he’s cheating. He keeps ‘working late’, missing dinners and he carries he phone around the house, as though to keep me from finding something out. I can feel it in my gut.
Adrian: Ok. But how do you suppose I help you? Just ask him about it, as if he’d confess it to me?
Isabella: I want you to follow him tonight. Check him out; see what he’s been up to. You know, the whole detective stuff you normally do.
Adrian: ahh Izzy, I’m not too sure. It’s all very sneaky. And those days are behind me now. I don’t do that anymore.
Isabella: (she moves closer to him to persuade him) C’mmon Adrian. I’m desperate. He’s my husband and I feel him slipping away…. (Adrian says nothing) …wouldn’t you want to know if it was Alyssa playing away? I’d help you. So please…Help me!!
Adrian: (becomes panicked) Why? Do you know something?
Isabella: Gosh no! She loves you. I’m just speaking hypothetically.
Adrian: (defeated) Hmm…Okay! I’ll help you, but it’s the last time!
Isabella: Thank you so much. (She gets up and puts her coat and gloves on) I’ll fax you over the details. (Adrian walks her to the door) ooh and Ad, this is between us….Alyssa isn’t to know, okay.
Adrian: (sarcastically) I wouldn’t dream of telling her. It’s not like we’re married or anything.
Isabella: (Unimpressed) Goodbye Adrian.
END OF SCENE ONE!

SCENE TWO
Adrian sits at home waiting for his wife to walk through the door. He is sat on his coach with his legs cross and legs shaking due to anxiousness as he sips on a glass of scotch.  As he hears Alyssa pulling up into the drive way he stands up and starts to walk around nervously biting thumb. Alyssa walks in, throws her bag on the chair and heads for the bar to make herself a drink.
Adrian:  Long day?
Alyssa: ooh you have no idea. (She walks over and kisses him on the cheek before taking her coat off) why you all dressed up for? Did you go out? (as she sits down.)
Adrian: (Looks at his attire up and down) ah yeah, I had to do a friend a favour... detective stuff
Alyssa: (resting her head) ooh sounds serious. What kind of detective stuff?
Adrian: She thought her husband was cheating and asked me to check him out
Alyssa: Oh no, poor woman. So…
Adrian: so what?
Alyssa: Was he cheating? Keep up Adrian (she giggles)
Adrian: oh yeah, right. Uhuh. He was cheating as she suspected.
Alyssa:  That’s awful. Why some men just can’t stay faithful is beyond me. I mean, why get married aye?
Adrian: ha! (walking over to the bar to pour himself another drink) It’s funny you should say that.
Alyssa: (she chuckles, but the look on her face makes it apparent that she has no idea why she’s laughing) what do you mean?
Adrian: the mistress he was cheating with is, you!
Alyssa: This is some kind of joke? (Sits up and takes off her heels) I don’t even know this friend of yours. (Starts to massage her feet)
Adrian: I didn’t tell you which friend it was. I know you sleeping with Julian, Alyssa. I followed him today and saw you. I saw you with him.
Alyssa:  (becoming emotional) Adrian I suggest you think carefully about what you’re accusing me of right now. I wouldn’t that to you.
Adrian: (losing his patience) you’re really going to do this? You’re going to lie about it?  Just admit it, Ally.
Alyssa: (Starting to ‘cry’) It wasn’t me. I was with Isabella the whole day. It’s really dark outside, you could have seen anyone.
Adrian: Ooh really? Because, I was with Isabella.
Alyssa: Okay. Fine. I’m sorry
Adrian: Is that all you have to say? You’re sleeping with your best friend’s husband, my best friend. I’m supposed to be your husband Ally.  How could you do this to me?
Alyssa: Im sorry, (goes over to him and holds his hand) I don’t know what else to say. It was one huge mistake that will never happen again. I love you.
Adrian: so how long has it been going on for then?
Alyssa: Does that even matter, like...
Adrian: ...It matters to me! How many times?
Alyssa: (backs away from him) if you really must know (walks over to the table, picks up her empty glass and walks over to the bar) Nearly Two months. It really doesn’t mean anything Ad. It’s just a bit of fun.
Adrian: I’m going to kill him. He’s looked me in my eyes knowing what he was doing behind my back.
In anger Adrian begins to walk over to the door. In the heat of the moment he and Alyssa struggle trigger of his heart attack. He starts to breathe heavily and clutches his chest.
Alyssa: (worried) Adrian, what’s wrong? What’s the matter?
Adrian: Get my pills (pointing at the table behind her) GET MY PILLS!!
She starts to go for the table and halts in her step. Realising that Adrian may potentially die because of the heat attack, she tries her luck and watches him as his life fades away, holding his pills in her hand.
Adrian: What are you doing, give my pills. Alyssa please!!!
She stands hovering over him, watching him. As he breathes his last breath, she throws the pills next to his lifeless body and picks up her coat and bag and exists the scene.

Roles of a Screen Writer- Film Noir

To conclude the year, we were given an opportunity to write and produce our own short Film Noir films. Within our groups, we assigned each other roles which had to be performed in older for the pre and post productions to be effective.

I volunteered for the role of script writer, as I have experience in it; having written a few plays of my own.
However, I'm going to use this opportunity to reflect on someone else who has gain the title of script writer as a profession and not a hobby.  The person I have chosen to research is John August.
Successful director and screenwriter who is responsible for films such as 'The Nines' starring Ryan Reynolds and Melissa McCarthy, The iconic 'Charlies Angles', 'The Prince of Persia' and 2005's remake of 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' starring Johnny Depp.

August was born and raised in Boulder, Colorado. He was born on 4th August 1970 making him 41 years old.
John August worked very hard to get to where he is now. He graduated at the Drake University in Lowa with a degree in Journalism. He then later went on to received an MFA (Master of Fine Arts) in film for the Peter Stark program he completed at the University of Southern California.

During his time trying to make it as a screenwriter, August did a lot of thing to get his name in lights and get recognition for what he had done. He wrote a draft screen play to the remake of Jurassic Park 3 (2001) but was not credited. He also did an uncredited rewrite of Martin Lawrence's Blue Streak and also a rewrite of popular 'Iron Man' film (2008)

It seemed like his hard work was about to play off, when he received a nomination for  the Best Adapted Screenplay in 2003 for 'Big fish' after winning the rights of an adaptation of Daniel Wallace's 'Big Fish' in 1998.

The Nines (2007) was August's first attempt at directing. Having seen the film 4 times personally and read reviews I feel it safe to say that he's attempt was a good and successful one.

To conclude, I had never heard of John August before writing this piece of coursework and I have learnt so much about him. To know that he is behind some amazing films makes him that much more appealing to me  and goes to show that without hard work and determination you can't  get anywhere.

Rupert Murdoch BSKYB : Letter to the MP. Lucy Reece

Dear MP,
I am writing to launch an attack on Rupert Murdoch's pursuit and campaign to retrieve ownership of BSKYB network again.

I feel that Rupert Murdoch wanting to own Sky for the second time is absurd.  Giving some such as him so much responsibility and power over something so influential and worldwide such as a huge media co-operation  surely cannot be good. I feel that even considering him for owner of Sky is ludicrous and frankly quite dangerous considering the previous phone hacking scandal with The News Of The World.

He becoming the owner of Sky again, regardless of his unethical behavior with the phone hacking scandal may give him the power to dictate what we as the public are shown and told about the world. Likewise, he can use his position to breach some more invasions of privacy to get the information that he may need.

Having breached the data protections act of 1998 when hacking into people phone, listening in on phone calls, reading their text messages and even going as far giving a family who's child was missing false hope that she was alive (which a very insensitive thing to do) I would have assumed he's be convicted for breaking the law but evidently not.

As a result of this, I feel that losing the rights to own BskyB will be punishment enough.

Thank you taking time out of you day to read my letter.

Yours Sincerely,

Amiee Wolf

MUSIC VIDEO WORK SHEET:

Task 1 (a): write a critical evaluation of the purpose of music videos, with examples.

1:_Lilly Allen: It’s Not Fair. I particularly like this music video by Lilly Allan, as it gives off the impression of being somewhat old fashioned. It’s created to look as though it was filmed and released during the 1970’s. The song was written by Miss Allen herself but produced by Greg Krustin. The video is of Lilly Allen’s performance of the song at a country show, with a composition of country style music being incorporated into the video. The video is presented in form of a concert/ simple gig. I feel that this light mood, fast tempo music is only to distract from what the lyrics of the song actually says.  In the song she talks of her relationship with her boyfriend and their sex life, stating that his love making skills are ‘not fair’ as he appears to be a selfish lover. This is song is very explicit and sexually orientated. She is simply performing to a group of an audience with backing vocalist at the back doing their part. She was has a live country western band, who look very disinterested and unimpressed which I feel fits in well with the content on the song.

2: The Righteous Brothers: Unchained Melody: The version I will be evaluating will be that of The Righteous brothers. They were a musical duo, starring Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield. This is undeniably my favourite song of all time. Reason being, that it’s such a beautiful composition and is accompanied by even more heart-warming lyrics. Alex North originally wrote this song with lyrics written by Hy Hazet. Some may argue that Unchained Melody was the most recorded song of the 20th century. In the year of 1965 they recorded and released the song that was to make their fame. The music video is very simplistic. It consisted of the duo performing live at their concert. The quality of the video is contemporary to the time it was produced. The camera angles are minimal and vary from medium, long shots and extreme close ups.

3: Sinead O’Connor: Nothing Compares:  Sinead’s iconic song was produced by herself, however written by Prince. It sees her singing about a hard break up that she is going through at the time. The reason I chose this video to evaluate is because even though it’s very statically and simply produced it is still effective. Having the video constructed the way it was, I feel it personalises the song. The lyrics in the song fit in well with the mood of the video. The constant extreme close up of Sinead’s face as she sings and cries give the audience the chance of connecting with her emotionally, which I think is a great feature.

4: Ed Sheeran: You Need Me Man, I Don’t Need You: I believe this to be one of the best music video to come out of 2011. It’s very current, hip and fresh. It’s black and white theme adds a ‘cool’ theme to the video. However the black and white colours don’t portray the video as dated, which is a good thing. The reason I enjoy this music video so much is due to the fact that I loved the concept and what it was trying to do. I appreciated how the producers of this video considered the public audience who have impaired hearing. There are a lot of camera angles used in this video. I feel that this fits in well and represents the fast pace of the song as it’s a rap song. The video is also somewhat mysterious as we are never really shown the singer until the very end. We as the audience only see parts of him slightly. This makes the viewers (those who are yet to see the video and don’t know Ed Sheeran) want to stick around and find out who is singing therefore watching the entire video.

5:Kayne West ft T-Pain: Good Life:
This is a very good video as it keeps the audience captivated, engaged and entertained. It does this using very brightly coloured animation all throughout the video. In the video Kanye West raps and his lyrics are created into animation; the audience can familiarise themselves with the images shown because they recognise what they see such as The Statue of Liberty, The White House in Washington, D.C. and the Hollywood Hills etc. This is a ‘feel-good’ video which complements the theme of the song about living the ‘The Good Life’. Also Kanye West and T-Pain have expressions of joy and elation; as well as this the video girl acquires the same expressions which contrast from the normal demeanour of a ‘hip-hop video girl’. The camera shots consist mainly of long and medium, with a few close ups and extreme close-ups. This may be to illustrate that the ‘good life’ is always experienced on a large scale therefore it’s fitting for it to be shown on large scale.

Task 2: Plan with creativity and flair a music video using found and original footage.

Title of Music Track/ Artist:
The song that I have chosen to base this project on is Beyonce’s 1+1

Write a description of your music video concept:

My music video will be done using simple shot and angles. I will use three different locations such as the photo studio, window and park as I’m singing and shooting the entire song at once. During the editing process I will use different shots from different scene and assembly them together to make a video sequence.

Explain how you are going to use and combine:

a)    original footage you have filmed yourself

All of my footage has been original

b)    library footage (include the source/s)

I imported Beyonce’s 1+1 audio song into my music video

Franklie Boyle letter: Lucy Reece

To whom this may concern,
I am writing this in regards to the crude joke that Frankie Boyle made in reference to Harvey Price. After watching the show on channel 4, having felt offended myself, I'm sure that the other viewers would have felt the same way. In fact a recorded number of 500 people felt strongly enough to complain to the Independent Communication Regulators about their distress whilst watching the episode. Aiming a joke at on particular person who has no way of defending himself seems harsh and as though Boyle is a bully. Having said that, Frankie Boyle is a comedian and it's his job to make people laugh. I understand that Channel 4 supports race and disability issues and for sake of equality jokes that would be make about the more able people show too be made about the disabled people. This is put in place in order to prevent anybody from being ostracized and neglected.

Music Downloading Poster. Lucy Reece

Downloading music from torrents site is illegal. People who are found downloads music illegally may and can be convicted to a sentence in prison depending on the severity of their crime, or they be awarded with huge penalty fee of up to £3'000

imgres.jpgA staggering 95% of music are downloaded illegally everyday. Due to the copyright, Design and patents acts of 1988 which was again reinforced by copyright and trademarks of 2002, it has made possible for people to be legally prosecuted and convicted if found guilty of downloading song illegally.

imgres.jpg
The advantages of downloading music illegal are simple. You can download as many songs as you want free of charge and enjoy them all day long. However, what we fail to realize is that when this is done, the artist and produces of the track receive no payment in return for their work.

People can use site such as LimeWire, Mp3Skull, YouTube and more to download music illegally.

It's All About Me: Blog Spot. Lucy Reece

I'm Ruth Nahomie Loba but I like to call by my stage name of Amiee Wolf.
my surname is Loba, which is that Spanish name for 'WOLF' because of this I tell people that I have some Spanish roots in me, even though it isn't true

I am originally from a west African Country called Ivory Coast, but have lived and grown up in London most of my life. I love it here, to some extent and wouldn't change my city for the world. However, I feel it very important to me to get out of London whenever I can. Because of this, I travel a lot, as often as I can to wherever I can afford.
imgres.jpgSome of the places i've been are: Paris, Italy, Greece (which was the first holiday abroad I had alone without my family. Must admit, one of the best holidays I've had)imgres.jpg
I've also been around the UK. Places such as Brighton, Liverpool, manchester, Portsmouth, Cardiff, Bournemouth, Birmingham, Wales and Kent. I enjoy Going away with my friends a lot as it gives me a chance to relax and stop thinking about the troubles in London that I may be facing
imgres.jpgI'm quite a dated young lady at heart to tell the truth. I feel as though I was born a few decades before my time. I love music and songs that were released before my time. I've listened to Heart FM since I was 7 years old. I've become pretty accustomed to enjoying classic and iconic songs from 'back in the day'. My favourite song of all time is Unchained Melody by the Righteous Brothers. This is also the song that is used in my favourite film...
...1990's film 'GHOST' starring Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore.

Currently, I attend City of Westminister College where I study Btec 3rd Diploma in New Media Studies Productions. This is a course that I enjoy every much. It gives me the opportunity to learn new things regarding the Media industry and what it will take to become apart of it. It also allows me create my own video projects such as, video profile, video CV, a music video, animation, advert and short films. I feel that this course will lead me to my future career of a television presenter. The people that inspire me are Ferne Cotton, Rick Edwards, Dermot O'Leary and last but not least, George Lamb.

Phone Hacking Summary- Lucy Reece

The participants of my survey aged between 17 to 29. As expected, mojority of them answered the question very similarly. My survey consist of closed questions with some elements of open questions. I feel that I could have made the survey strictly closed, to make it easier for my participants.

100 per cent of the people who part-took in my survey were concious of what Phone Hacking was, which made the survey pretty easy for them from the get go. This was shown, as again 100% of them agreed that it was an act against the law e.g criminal and illegal. Demondstrating their knowledge on the matter further, they concluded that it was indeed The News Of The World newspaper that were primarily involved with the Phone Hacking Scandel.

90% of the people commented  that all those that were involved should have been delt with severly such given a prison sentence.

100% knew that Rupert Murdoch was the owner of The News Of The World. The all said that if they happened to become a victim of phone hacking they would be deeply upset and would want something done about it, as it is an invation of privacy.

To conclude, I had a good response from my survey and everybody would agree that the scandal was a disgraceful thing to occur and should be delt with more seriously to prevent people going through it in the coming future.
